Vigil tells the story of a crew member who mysteriously dies onboard the HMS Vigil. This is a submarine that’s responsible for providing a so-called nuclear deterrent.

She discovers some secrets during her time on board that have far-reaching implications. These affect not just the people on board the submarine but also the world above water.
One would be forgiven for thinking this series is based on the mysterious death of a crew member of the HMS Vigilant. Like the Vigil, this is a submarine that’s used for its nuclear threat. Nevertheless, a BBC spokesperson stated Vigil is “a fictional drama and is not inspired by or based on any specific real-life event.”
